Kate Middleton opted for a diamond tiara on her wedding day

Kate Middleton opted for a diamond tiara on her wedding day, despite rumours that the pretty brunette would opt for flowers woven through her locks.

The 29-year-old, who chose a beautiful gown of ivory and white satin gazar, with hand-cut English lace and French Chantilly lace, which designed by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen, wore a diamond “halo” tiara was made by Cartier in 1936.

It was purchased by The Duke of York (later King George VI) for his Duchess (later Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother) three weeks before he succeeded his brother as King.

The stunning headpiece was presented to The Queen by her mother, on her 18th birthday, so it is a very special item for Kate to be presented with on the day of her wedding to Prince William.

Kate also wore beautiful diamond jewellery which were made by Robinson Pelham. The diamond-set stylised oak leave earrings are set with a pear shaped diamond set drop and a pavé set diamond acorn suspended in the centre.

They were inspired by the new Middleton family coat of arms, which includes oak leaves and acorns, and complement the tiara. The earrings were a gift from Kate’s parents Michael and Carole, for her wedding day.
